Speedo and accelarator

Ok, slowly but surely we are getting our new T25 sorted out. Today will be its first big run since we bought him, so that should be interesting. However, a couple of minor things that I have noticed need sorting, first, the speedo dances around?! Is that easy to fix, bearing in mind both my husband and I are both non mechanics and I know we are going to have to take it somewhere to get it sorted. As well as this the accelarator peddle wobbles slightly from side to side - I'm assuming that the peddle just needs tightening up.
:D

the speedo works like this:

A cable runs from the left hand front wheel to the back of the speedo clock on the dash.

Things to check:
1.Remove the hubcap from the front left wheel. There should be a domed hub/cover like in the picture below
Image
In the middle should be a small square bit of metal protruding and it should have a circlip (see pic below) holding it in place
Image

Sometimes the square tip gets worn and rounded off - either replace the entire cable (fun job - honest) or find some method of wedging something in place to make sure the square bit rotates with the rotating of the wheel.

2. Sit inthe drivers seat, grip the back fo the cover of the dash pod - and pull it up and towards you. Reach behind the speedo clock and you will see/feel a big cable (not electric) that either screw in to the bakc or pushes & clicks into the back of the speedo - CHECK that this is fitted securely to the speedo.

You could unplug/unscrew the speedo cable and get a passenger to look at the cable whilst you are driving to see if the inards of the cable turn as the van moves. Though it might be easier to jack the van up on the front left side and stick a axle stand underneath and get someone to spin the wheel

Hope that helps for starters

Hi
Thanks Louey my speedo flickers a bit, I now know what to investigate. Wondering if its poss to buil a rounded square up with weld then grind or file it back square?
Accelerator pedal could be just loose but they are known to part from the floor, held in by two rivets, check these if worn you can drill them out and after removing the spare get sccess from the bottom to bolt it in place or if in wales weld a gate hinge to it.

On bugs, we used to whack a cold chisel inside the dome to close the hole.

Spot weld the cable to the dome.

Thank you, thats great information and we'll look at that this week. We took Dudley on his first long trip this weekend and nearly had a heart attack on the M1 when the oil buzzer came on!!! I nearly fell out of the seat and my husbands face was a total picture!! After a couple of wacks of the dashboard it went out and fortunately we weren't far from where we were going. We managed to drive the 140 mile trip home today without the same happening. (Maybe the ear plugs helped :rofl ) From what we've read it looks like the two could be related as the oil was totally fine.
