Deisel tank

Hi all can any one advise me on how water woulfd have got in to my tankiv just been with my mechinic tonite and we tried the van power pack and it fired up smack then stalled so he undone the injecters and pulled some fuel throught it but it was mostly a creamy colour so we drianed the tank and put fresh deisel in it and it started after a few turns how much work is it to take the tank off and have a butchers at it :ok

Engine and transmission have to come out.
Tank held in place by two steel straps which are probably a tad rusty.
Can of worm comes to mind.

Oh rite i thought that might be the case the fuel neck is rusted pretty bad so defo gonna have to change that can you advise me on changing any thing else whist we are at it as my mechnic has worked on plenty of T25 but no syncros before

Probably a good idea to get replacement straps before embarking on work, I think Simon at Brickwerks may have some stainless steel ones.
The bulkhead/floor in the vicinity of the tank is likely to need some work - rusty, and the 'breather' pipes (rubber) that run along the top of the tank are likely to be perished.
Unless you have to take the it out I would leave the fuel level sender where it is, again the steel ring that holds the six or its it eight studs is likely to be rusty and the studs will probably shear if you attempt to undo the nuts!
It's one of those jobs that you really know what you letting yourself in for until it's too late!

Hard to say though the are stories of water getting into filling station storage tanks.....

Might be but his van has been stood for 4 years as the previous owner was told the haed gasket had gone and never bothered fixing it then i bought it off him
