hey guys, iv recently realised that the temp gauge on my van is not working. the red light works properly but the needle doesnt seem to move at all. would this be a fault with the temp sender or the gauge its-self? if any of you guys have any sugestions it would be a great help before i actualy start tackling the problem blind

when mine was broken it was the sender unit, the position depends on your van. Mine was on the thermostat housing BUT be careful you dont do what I did and change the carb heater switch instead the temp sender was behind the thermostat housing not on the side only really removable by laying underneath the van.

The gauge is pretty reliable, loose nuts on the back of the gauge can cause this problem but I would be checking connections to temp sender and the sender itself. Shorting the red /yellow wire at the sender to earth should cause the needle to move. The sender needs an earth to function as the housing is plastic so check earth connection (brown wire) actually connects to earth. Check state of connections at sender terminals. Giving the dash multiconnector a check over too might be needed if the fault still persists.
