I used to be in the Caravan club years ago, and you do get discounts

I have tried them both. I was at first in the Caravan Club and then moved to the other - reason being that the Caravan and Camping Club seem to have a better selection of 'approved sites' than the Caravan Club. Since then I have seen no reason to go back. The Caravan and Camping Club call themselves 'the friendly club' and it seems an apt description. The Caravan Club does not usually allow tents on its sites and is not open to non-members. The Camping Club does both, so you seem to get a better mix of people and more interesting. We have heard bad comments about the Caravan Club from site owners, the National Trust and Forestry Commission. Regard themselves as 'more up-market' perhaps. Cannot tell you anything about cost as I have not recently compared them. You do get special offers with the Camping Club, particularly ferry charges etc. Really, you pays your money and takes your choice. My personal view would be Camping and Caravan Club. I suspect, but have no grounds for tjhis, that if you have a Type 25 or earlier you will get a better reception from members of the Camping Club than the other. The Caravan Club does seem to go in for more expensive and up to date vans.

We are members of both Camping and caravan club for there arrival breakdown scheme, and Caravan club for the ferry discounts, there are other benifits to be had from both clubs but it all depends on what the individual want`s.

As to sites we seem to use Caravan Van club sites (mostly CLs) more than Camping and Caravan Club sites but that seem sto be down to the Geography of sites rather than preference.

Foresty Commision sites now have a tie up with the Camping and Caravan club.

Never found a problem when parked on either Clubs sites with our T25, amoungst big expensive campers, folk have mostly always been friendly and more than ready to chat about our/there van, which usually goes along the lines of we used to have one of those, and often an admission that there current Gin palace is not as much fun or as convienient as there old T25, i just smile sweetly happy in the Knowledge that singletrack roads and wild camping is our Fort`e and not theres thankfully, and that the Club site is a good place to spend a night or two charging batteries, getting showered etc.

Just decide what it iss you want from the club and pay your money we seem to more than re-coup our club fees on the various discount`s we take advantage off :ok

Interseting to see the comments on here. I've never belonged to any TBH but I would probably go with the Caravan and Camping club as they seem less "elitest" - when I was just a lowley camper the caravan club would be the one's that strictly enforce certain policies. At the end of the day its upto personal pref - me less rules = better times.

me, -- camping and caravan, their `big sites book ` is great, full of little sites some as cheap as £4 a night, also arrival is useful, only used one of the club sites once and `im still smarting from the cost, like i said, small certificated sites out of big book better price and some `hideaway` sites for quieter times

I always get a feeling of curtains being twitched every time we arrive on a Caravan Club site... and I'll never forgive them for wanting to charge us full whack to park up OUTSIDE their gates for having the temerity to arrive at 9.30pm (30 minutes after their closing time).

Don't know about the other lot, but they can't be as bad from what folk here are saying.

Camping and caraven club for us.Only joined this year but the big sites book is great. The sites we stayed at were friendly to our tent dwelling friends too and were really chilled basic sites, just how we like it :ok
