Painting Rocker covers

Hi all, just a quickie. I have a tin of rustoleum satin black ready to do a refurb on a good second hand petrol tank for my 2.0l Aircooled. I noticed the other day that my rocker covers had a surface of rust on them. I need to change the gaskets (usual drip of oil getting steadily worse  ). So now the question, can I rub down and use rustoleum on the covers or should I get something heatproof? How warm do they get?

Better with HT paint but heck give it go, it seems resilent stuff :D

Exhaust would be a definate no no but seen rockers painted with hammerite so it should cope.

I must add though, pulling the spring down can ruin the paint unless you use a screwdriver to stop is scraping

Be a good test for its ability under the stress of heat - keep us posted.
