Can you add that early sliding door handle seals can now be bought from custom and commercial and vw heritage?

Yep, and well worth using as they help locate the handle and prevent it being pullked at an angle causing premature failure of the square bar in the casting

Is there anything anywhere specifically about Syncro front driveshaft removal? I want to put new CV boots on inner and outer as outer is split and if I have drive shaft off I might as well do both. I've looked through every page of this thread and looked on the Wiki without any joy.

Thanks very much for all the work that goes into the Wiki - its really useful especially on the Syncro topics.

From memory (somewhat shaky!)

Loosen drive shaft nut (32mm?)
Jack under front jacking point, wheel off ground
Wheel off
Remove brake hose clip from upright (open ended 6 or 7mm?)
Remove track-rod end
Undo bottom balljoint nut mostly all the way
Crack bottom ball joint
Stand on lower wishbone, remove from bottom ball-joint
Completely remove driveshaft nut
Pull upright outwards, wangle the driveshaft out of hub bearings
(Its a fiddle but in one position. driveshaft will clear all obstacles, to become free)
Undo 6 inner CVJ bolts (Hex allen or 12 point)
Shaft is free

Will put in Wiki susbequently, probably somewhere a round, above may need detail corrections (Andy Mc or Aidan :idea )

Thats great - thanks very much. Haynes is obviously no good for this as it doesn't cover Syncros and as far as I can see in the Bentley it doesn't actually show how to get the drive shaft off - only how to get the CVs off once drive shaft is removed. This will stop me taking off bits that I don't need to!

Thanks again,

Pete

Oops, forgot about removing the anti-roll-bar down-link.

That will need to come off, but watch that 17mm AF nut, thos drop-links can break, free it off well first, wire brush stud thread and squirty Plus Gas squirty if not been off for a while
