Has anyone experienced a problem with their van regarding a burning smell? At first we thought it was the gas but that was not turned on. I then thought it smelt more electrical. I turned on all electric appliences, lights, fan, fog light etc and the smell went.Is it possible the battery was over charging? Or does any one think I need a new alternator, battery or both? Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Now I know what burning wood , plastic, coal, dinner and electrical wires smell like.
but a burning battery , you got me there.
the best way to check if your battery is to use a multimeter across the terminals (not your nose!), with a reading of 13 to 14 volts hopefully,
sure it wasn't from an outside source?

Wondering if it was the fan belt slipping due to being slightly loose and having a big resistance from the alternator after starting?

Stupid idea I have.
If your van is water cooled, it could be from your heater (if fan is not turned on)
If can give a slight burning smell.
