Well after looking at the intemittant thread and thinking yep need that, I looked in my fuse box to find a very small amout of relays present.

How many relays should be in the fuse box? Anybody got a set of reference numbers for them so I can illiminate what I have and have not got.

cheers

Sorry just abit more info as I have justtaken a piccie of my fuse box attached below:

As you can see there is a lot of spaces present, at the moment my wipers only work on full speed, when I turn them off they stop where they are and do not return to the bottom, there is no intermittant and slow speeds either.

Funny thing about VW. They are so optimistic when it comes to relay sockets. Beetles were the same - gaps, giving you the impression you'd been short-changed on ancilleries. :D

I know what you are saying, but I noticed an extra relay was needed for intermittant which I will fit, but was wondering if that is all that should be in there.

42 is fine, later replacement for the original 43 Coolant Level Sender Control Unit (same function but uses a later chip).

42 later replaced with 43 low level coolant (as already posted)
21 flasher relay
18 load reduction relay

hope that helps :ok

there is an oddity with the relay positions, (will check on mine) but where is the fog light relay in yours? The rear fog light needs this relay as I just replaced mine and sure its located where your 18 is or next to it, can't remember now, damn! Sure you have one missing!

The Xload relay function appears to be for handling the bulk of the current to the ignition side of the electrical system thereby reducing the load on the ignition switch contacts and is energised at ignition switch on. Will check on mine and update in case it helps.

OK this thread is a great help.

Went on the brickyard link and why does my main fuse box not look like either of the two representations. I have two rows of relays the a row of spade fuses. That has confused me a little.

Some of my fuses are now redundant as I grafted the cosworth harness to the VW harness and have installed a secondary fuse box in my cubby box under load bead.

I suppose I had better start at the beginning and try and get this wiper thing sorted first as I only have the top speed for the wipers. Is there a specific relay for the wipers or should I say where are the wipers controlled from?

Cheers for help so far guys

Don't know if this is any use but when I did mine I had to remove a bent metal 'jumper' clip from position 10 before I could fit the relay. This clip must have been jumping a couple of the pins to allow (I think), auto park for the wipers.
