looking to get a new set made and wondered what roads people had been down on here...is it best and cheaper to get them made yourself or have people had good experiences going to firms that seem to specialize in them,ie advertise in mags etc???

Try the bay of fleas. S.Brown Textiles of Burscough, Lancs. advertise on there a lot during spring/summer but they may still have some curtains on there at the moment. Several people on 80-90 have bought from them. This thread would be better in ''camping''.

Alternatively, might be worth asking our very own Scampi & Chips

Replaced ours this year with thermal lined curtains for about £75. Came with two matching cushions,good quality and a good fit.

I am going to make some out of old curtains got from a car boot sale, as the colours match the van paint and interior perfectly

I reckon using the old ones as templates, it should be easy enough
Mine fasten up very simply with a seam with that springy wire running through them, top and bottom.

Question =

Do "we" reckon
A - The pattern should be on the outside (vain)
B - The pattern should be on the inside (self indulgent)
C - The curtains should be folded over so there is pattern on both sides (flash & more work & maybe too bulky)

When drawn, ours are 'B', but when gathered using the tie-backs they are partially 'A'
We used the same company Bowton Lad and Andy, Julie & Bobdog used. Found them via E-bay but sorted outside of E-bay and if I remember correctly I got a bit of a discount for this as they didn't have to pay the fees. Also instead of being a generic set they were made to measure. Mrs was well impressed with the matching cushion covers

BombHead, the curtains from S.Browns Textiles are option 'B' ie. pattern side in. There is normally an option to ''Buy It Now'' or ''Make An Offer''. I chose to make an offer & it was accepted. After purchase the standard sizes are emailed to the customer who then has to send (amended) sizes to the seller. Where the Fridge/Sink units are on the offside of my van, I had the curtains shortened to my specifications.

I took the sizes from vwcurtains and modded them to suit what i wanted just needed material and found two sets of massive checked curtains at B&Q cost me a total of £20 and got me mum to knock them up and still have tons left for plenty of cushions (luckily she was a seamstress years ago)

the one thing i liked about vwcurtains was that they have evrything you need to get them hung aswell postage is very reasonable and fast

I got standard bedroom curtains in the colour I wanted in the sale at Argos - £3 a pair! Brought 8 pairs and got enough to chop the curtains down to right length and cover my seat.

Ikea is good for cheap material, I got some of the linen type so the pattern is both sides they are quite thin, but we use screens with them anyway. They are more for decoration than keeping the light out! I used the old curtains as a pattern, I'm really pleased with the result, but I'm now trying to muster the energy to do the seat covers... it was fun and creative until I got half way through...

One other thing, they were a pig to take down and put up! Lots of fiddly screws behind shelves and things... leave lots of time!
