Electric fuel pump fitting query...

Hi,

I've reviewed the previous threads and WIKI on fitting an electic fuel pump - really helpful and I now feel reasonably confident at having a go / know where to buy from and what bits!

(Need to get the bus going again as she looks said and lonely sat on the drive :( )

Just a couple of questions, does anyone know if you can leave the original mechanical pump 'in situ' once the electric one is fitted and, if so, does anything need to be disconnected to stop it working and eventually smashing itself to pieces internally presumably? If not, should some sort of blanking plate be fitted and where would you get one of these from?

Cheers, :D

Chris

I know theres a blanking plate for Type1's (bugs) readily available due to its bigger custom market and I believe the footprint is identical. Pump should be fine left in situ (just remove pushrod and cut a complete covering gasket out of gasket paper) - other option is just remove the lot and make a plate to fit.
