mirror wobble

On the way back from buying my van the mirrors blew back towards the door at about 60mph. After some advice on here, I took them off and tightened the nut on each one. Now they are as stiff as you like, probably too stiff as I felt as if i might rip them off the door when I was adjusting them. Anyway, the passenger side is now fine but on the drivers side i still have a nasty wobble that makes the mirror next to useless. Is there anything I can do to stop the wobble or do I basically need to replace it?
Who sells the least crap mirrors? Are there any alternatives from other motors that are easy to obtain and fit? (pockets not deep enough for truck mirrors)
Cheers

When you say wobble do you mean the whole mirror or is the glass vibrating ?

As a temp repair just push a small peice of card inbetween the mirror frame and the glass at the top edge then trim off any extra this should take the vibration out.

did you strip the nut and spring off them and give the metal shafts a good emerying and greasing before tightening the nuts up
