Due to my van spewing oil I have had to remove the engine and intend to replace both the crankshaft and input shaft oil seal. I would be grateful if you kind folk would advise on the following

1. Is a gasket or sealant required between the gearbox housing and the engine.
2. Is any sealant required when fitting the oil seals
3. What thread locking compound would you use for the flywheel bolts and CV bolts

Answer to your first question sealent is not used between the bell housing of the gearbox and engine.The second question sealant is sometimes used with seals to hold the seal in place & form a oil leak free bond due to damage or wear in the metal where the seal is fitted and seated .Before you replace the crankshaft oil seal make sure the crankshaft end float is within limits to much endfloat will cause oil leakage.The Haynes manual discribes how much endfloat is required and the adjustment with shims.Regarding your van spewing out oil it could be gearbox oil or engine oil or both so i advice cleaning off all round the engine looking for leaks .Gearbox oil smell like cats p**ss if it is leaking oil then its proberly the input shaft oil seal.

its not a hard job i did all three of mine both ends of the crank and the input seal i was advised to remove the bell housing to do the box seal which wasnt to bad but i did have a silicone sealant for oils and lubes to refit the bell housing to the box. I would use new bolts for the flywheel, they are cheap from brickwerks or a very good loctite if you are panning on using the old ones.

While your at the pulley end of the crankshaft it makes sense to replace the cam, belt and tensioner to as its all off?

Its a CU engine so no cambelt or tensioner to replace.
