If its not one thing its another. Oil light wouldn't work, tried everything. Eventually swap dash unit, all worked lovely for a week, now battery light has just stopped working.
Are these systems connected in anyway?

They are through the multi-connector on the dash pod - often the place to investigate :D

1 Check the connection at the Alternator.

2 Check the LED (you can do this with most multimeters). If you have a spare try replacing it and clean the legs if they have tarnished. Make sure you connect it the correct way round (LED has a 'flat' on the lower circumference that denotes negative.

3. Alternator feed on Dash MC is pin 11 (BL) on vans with horizontal dash connectors and Pin 13 (Bl) on pre 86 vans with vertical connector. Check these appear OK as the copper edge connectors don't age well at all.

The LED is sourced from the membrane panel 12V suppply, if clock and Indicators are working then this is probably ok, LED has a series resistor (and a blocking diode in series on later models) but these are unlikely to fail. There is no Earth connection involved in the Charge LED circuit other that at the the Alternator its self.
