1.9 DG Transporter - a couple of questions.

1) I have no rev counter and I'm scared of over revving it when climbing hills in 2nd and 3rd. Can anyone tell me what speed I shouldn't exceed in each gear? At the moment I pull up about 17mph in 1st, 30mph in 2nd, 45mph in 3rd and then upto about 75mf (FLat out) in 4th.

2) I want to lower it a bit and was thinking about 45mm drop springs. I have read that the caravelles etc were lower than standard already. Does this mean the 45mm lowering springs will drop mine more than 45mm or not as it rides higher than caravelles etc as standard?

Cheers,

Nick

I have no rev counter, and its not until i got my syncro that i'd ever used one.
Listen to what your engine is telling you, does it sound as if its struggling or over revving? if it does then you're in the wrong gear.

the rotor arm should cut the revs if they're too high, unless it's been replaced with a non limiting one

I've always been told these like to work hard

I thought that thing under my right foot was a foot rest.

I've always shifted up pretty quickly (your numbers seem about right) and on motorways I sometimes look for a 5th gear!

The previous owner used to drive it like it was about to fall apart - just breathed lightly on the accelerator pedal and did 0 - 60 in three days or so. Personally, I can just tell she's happier with the way I'm driving her!

One thing though, if you want to keep up with the motorway traffic, you'll need a second mortgage for your petrol!

Gas is the way to go, but I don't do enough miles to justify that at the moment.

rotor arms with the rev limiter are about 3 times the price of normal(i bet the next reply says YES BUT A LOT CHEAPER THAN A NEW ENGINE  )
