I've ordered a hose for the gear box end, the copper pipe to slave cylinder.

JK tell me there's is two female ends, to fit my new slave cylinder i need a male end and a female the other. Has anyone else replaced theirs?

I hope it's the right one when it comes as I want to go to Final Fling:( I've also ordere a repair kit if all else fails:) unless the nipple is seized:(

I'd be double checking the new hose with the old one just in case you are being given 'Bum' information.

The fix if needed would be to have a new metal pipe made up to suit ,( any decent independant garage should be able to sort this for you)

AS Kev say's ... you have the later translucent plastic type, the hose and rigid set-up is early.

There are 2 types.

1 - Rubber hose with 2 female ends, this goes from the metal pipe sticking out of the chassis, to a bracket bolted onto the side of the gearbox, from said bracket is then a rigid pipe to the slave cylinder. This is fitted to earlier vans.

2 - White translucent nylon pipe, male one end, female the other, goes from the pipe out of the chassis directly to the slave cylinder, this is fitted to later vans, obsolete and has been for a good while.

The earlier rubber version is available on the aftermarket and is made by a few companies, those aren't really a problem, the later one is though.

I have had both styles made up in braided stainless teflon hose in the right bore to get around this problem, not cheap but neither were the originals.

I have seen plenty of clowns that have made it in brake pipe, which does work but not as it should and results in slow operation and a heavy feel to the pedal.

Cheers guys, got the jk one through today, and its no use, so it's going back, two female ends. Havn't the time to get anything made up etc. Not sure what that hose is for but certainly doesn't fit my bus.

Ordered one from Brickwerks, looks very nice and is a braided jobby so is good piece of kit!

We do like to offer alternatives (not a bodge) to any problem, that's what being an old school mechanic is all about.....

In industry we were always told that was the difference between a fitter and a mechanic ... a fitter can fit new parts while a mechanic can (sometimes) mend the old ones.

In the old days when I was a factory apprentice, a fitter (always named Ken) was a guy who fixed everything with a Birmingham screwdriver (hammer) and a Fitter's Nightmare (adjustable wrench)!
