Front outer CVs - who's going to be replacing them soonish?

I was speaking to Vee W Services earlier, asking after the front outers and the guy mentioned that he would be able to get them from alternate suppliers cheaper than the genuine ones if there was enough interest.
I need two Cvs shortly, is anyone else planning on replacing theirs?
I will let you know a price as soon as he gets back to me, but it would be nice to have some idea of the number of people who have a light clicking they wish to lose in the coming months and it would also be nice to patronise a supplier who does give good service and still stocks a good range of bits for the T25 (unlike GSF and EuroCan'tParts).
Jake will vouch for these guys too, don't know about anyone else's experience on here...

I need one kit (it will be the full VW kit won't it ?)
Can you confirm if this'll be an outright sale or exchange like VW ?

Aye, it is true. Good people, chap behind the counter also owns and drives a syncro.
I could well be interested as it worth having a spare.

i could be interested if the price is right, all the others have been done in the past week, might as well have the bits to sort the last 2 when they eventually go.

It may be worth asking GKN driveline they make the joints for vw, they were very helpfull when i wanted a new propshaft and very cheap (compared to vw).

Always on the look out for good parts at the right price. I believe the joints are made by lobro, but i may be wrong.
Someone we know down south is trialling £5 Cavalier CV boot instead of £30 genuine one so that may be a top tip if it works ok.
Lots of talk over the years that our front outer cv's are common to something else but noone seems to have proved it, and all the guys who've turned up on ebay selling cv joints say they can get them for ours but after 2 years not one of them has ?
2...er 4 as long as they are outright not exchange : )
Don't forget if they don't have flange seals I still have some genuine ones (proceeds to club funds) and some of the alternatives left.

I got a new one for mine from vw, it did not have vw stamp just GKN. I think lobro and GKN are part of the same company, i got a rear gkn cv joint last week which came with a lobro boot.

GKN and Lobro are indeed the same company, or GKN ownes Lobro.

Well the suppliers mentioned by the guy were neither Lobro or GKN.
Someone is offering to do the leg-work to source front outers at lower cost than VW AND hold them in stock, provided people buy them relatively regularly (and if we keep using the vans off road then we will keep needing them).
One of the guys at this place runs a Syncro so they know what they're on about and have looked into this before. After doing the legwork they didn't think there would be the demand, but then they didn't know about us lot.
Just post if you're interested in the CVs.
Cheers

I'll definitely have have one whether it's a kit or not so long as it's good value.

Something you should consider doing before forking out masses of dosh for new front outer CV's (providing they are just worn & not totally U/S) is to refurb, pack with new grease & then swap them over (left to right & visa versa) . I have done this on one of my Syncs when they started to get a bit "noisy" & they have done a further 30k miles (135k total) & are still going strong (and quiet).
New Outer front CV's from VW cost around £117 (exchange) each . The last ones I actually bought (last year as a stratigic spares should I ever need them!) were GKN Units (Part 251498099). Not a bad price if you consider that they do come with a new seal, grease pack & the correct HD Nylon type CV boots (Loebro part 2 152 12 75 00 045 1-1 ), which are essential - cheaper rubber boots are a waste of money (and a lot of time!).
I have got to do a front drive shaft overhaul on my hightop later this month & will do the same with that vehicles outer CV's as well (if they are not too bad), so these new ones may well stay in their boxes for a little while longer, though I might just take them out & fondle them from time to time!!!
Regards

1 please Thomas, for stock
Maybe I'll try that on one vehicle Simon, and been wanting to test that special grease, with the additive in it. It says CV joints on it.

If you order them from VW, Chris generally they come in.
