yet more questions about 2ltr air cooled

Hi sorry for all the questions recently, but i am slowely getting there, very, very, very slowly!!!

I have fitted the new engine i got and got it running, i have "invented" a throtle linkage from the auto box to the single carb, although i dont think the kick down is working, so may need to fine tune that part!! my questions are this.....

It is a single webber carb, i need to replace the 4 rubber seals that go between the inlet manifold and the bit the carb bolt to! But i cant find them, just kampers sell the conversion kit i.e. the full kabang carb/manifold ect ect but they dont seem to have the seals on there own, or at least i cant find them on the site!

next, with a single carb conversion where do the advance/retard vacume hoses go? i have one from the dizzy to the carb but dont know where the other should go to?

when the engine runs its seems like it gets very hot, although i can hold the dipstick with no trouble! it just feels hot after running and removing the engine bay lid, also getting some smoke coming from the heat exchangers after its been turned off, but im assuming its just crap burning off as the engine has been stored under a sheet for some time!

also, when i got it the breather pipe from the crank case had a length of hose attatched to it, not sure why! but after running it i noticed a few drips of water coming from it!!, so i removed the hose altogether to replace it and noticed sticvky whit/brown stuff around the hole!! is this just likely to be condensation? i am going to do an oil change, got the stuff today, but im wondering if i should run some engine flush through it first?

many thanks for all the continued advice, its all very much appreciated

jon

the gunk is normal. its prob because the motors not run for long, basically its an engine breather, it would have had a hose to connect to the original air filter. you may get away with fitting a breather box about 40 quid from http://www.cool-air.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

unfortunatly you havent got the best carb for this motor to be honest. you may struggle with getting it to run right. the single central weber twin choke is undersized for the motor.

as for the oil i would just run it up so its warm and just change it. sometimes flushing disloges all sorts of crap.

meant to add you will need to jet this carb to be anywhere near what you need.
the last thing you want to do is run an Aircooled motor lean mixturewise otherwise it can do serious damage :ok

thanks for the reply, as for jetting the carb, it was already on the engine and came out of a running van with shot bodywork so should be all set up ok, i am just gonne keep it long enough to get mot sorted and save some cash for some decent twins, either webers or refurbed solex's, but for now i will keep the single as thats all funds allow for the time being!

as for the brether, i have just put on a black plastic "thing" off another engine i have, some kind of catch pot by the look of it, was just gonna put a brether filter onto that?!

as for the state of the oil, glad thats normal, will just do a regular oil change then.

any idea over the vacume pipes?

many thanks
jon

do you have a vacc port on the weber?

blank the retard off connect the advance to the carb

dont whatever you do fit an 009 it wont work properly!!

i fitted dual twin choke delortos to my a/c wedge after having refurbed solexs from steve at gasure.

yeah, there is one port for vac on the carb, i currently have a hose from the front of the adv/ret unit (cone side) to the carb, is this right? not sure which is advance or wich is retard!

you say about 009, this is the dizzy right? how can i tell? i think it is already, its got the wire going to the side of it and no points, its electronic ignition?

cheers

if its got electronic ignition its the proper one.

iirc the advance is the l h s one looking at the engine bay
