Protecting my under-carriage ?

Ay up,
I'm stripping down all the front suspension, axles and steering gear to give them a overhaul, usual stuff - bearings, bushes & balls. I was hoping to get all the control arms, axles, etc sand blasted and powder coated, however, I reckon I'm better off saving my money for other areas (and there are plenty !
).
So, I'm opting for the angle grinder with the twisted wire brush option & needle gun. However, rather than just giving them a traditional lick of hammerite has anyone got any top tips for using anything else that's a robust protective coating?
Cheerz
