hi All,
Now ive got my own syncro at last (thanks Pete !), just wondered what the otions were in terms of tyres for std 14" wheels ? Im after something mostly for normal road use, so not too noisy, but occasional off-road (nothing too serious) ..
I know theres lots more options if I go to 15/16" but staying with 14" for now ...
any suggestions ?

Not a huge amount.. normal fair of 185 road and winter tyres.. there are a couple of "mud" tyres in 185 too.. but really 185's are a bit small... 205 r 14 work but even less in a winter tyre in that size.. slightly better selection in 195r14...
Then there are a couple of tyres in 27/8.5x14 (imperial size) like BFG AT, but these can be hard to get hold of.. ideally anything ove the 195's need the wider 6" rim too... Inc the 27's
A set of merc 15" steels gives a much wider option though...
I've just put the std 185 14's back on as have a long road trip to do and the muds are too noisey... (it will also knock them out too) and it just looks daft on those little wheels... I have merc steels with 205/70r15 Blackstar Guyane's..

There is a company called Lassa who make a 195/14 tyre which might suit you. I used them ages ago on my first T25 and I found them to be good with very tough sidewalls. Two of the largest utility companies used them at the time. I remember them being cheap as well

I've got 195/80/14's on and I'm very happy with that size.
Looks a tad better than the 185's (just a tad) but more importantly, it doesn't zap much of the 1.6 TD's meagre performance. Speedo reading is now pretty much exact to the GPS.
I'm currently on Hankook RA08 normal summer road tyres. They have a 104/106 load rating in this size and are very strong and do take quite some punishment off-road without complaining. I'm only doing mild off-roading and so far haven't really got stuck ...but I did not venture into any deep mud ..who would, on summer tyres.
On-road performance is very good, also in the wet.
Hankook also do an all season and a winter tyre in this size, might try them next time once the current ones are done.

No Vito wheels wont fit.. not without very big spacers..... so defeats the object..
Some T4 wheels will apparently.. but IIRC the centre bore needs machining out also..
Some 195 or 205 14 "all season" or "winter" types are about the cheapest/easiest option... or as peasant has, some "summer" tyres.. its surprising how much traction there is.. and if you dont intend going anywhere muddy.. its fine.. worth making it to one of the events to see how far your vehicle will go on them too...

coming to think of it ...I should probably retratct that bit about not going into deep mud.
The following is my "driveway" of a wet winter and the Hankook tyres cope with that every day, no problem.
