Oil leak near filter mount - where's the likely source?

Hi all,
After returning from a journey last week I noticed a lot of spots of oil over the back of the van (2 litre air cooled). I checked the dip and it was very low (was at full mark to start).

I started the engine and looked underneath - there appears to be a constant drip running down from above the oil presure relief. I can see it forming at the base of the elbow/mount for the oil filter where it bolts to the case.

I'm wondering whether it's likely to be the gasket for the filter mount - or is it possibly coming from above that - maybe the actual oil cooler?

In both cases - is this an engine out job to resolve? Just need to work it out so I can schedule my Easter activities

cheers,
Rich

Seeing as no-one else has replied - I'm no expert, but the oil cooler can leak and look like it's maybe the push rod tube seals......best bet, wipe the whole thing down and investigate further if possible......oil cooler IS an engine out job - but, to be fair, it's only 4 bolts......worst bit is getting the darn thing out from underneath - they really should have built these vans 6 inches taller.....

There - cr4p answer, but it's bumped you......

thanks Jen. Yeah reckon it's engine out over Easter....
Glad to hear Simon helped you at Coney. He's a star - he let me have a spin.

Shame you aren't a hundred or so miles closer......and I didn't have a gearbox oil leak......I could have been free this weekend and 2l Aircooled are my favourite*.......

* I'm no expert - but I've helped change 3 2l engines, I make a mean cup of coffee and I can suck my teeth as well as the best of em....
