First of all i would like to say hi, as i am new, and im potentially in the market for a t25 panel van (if one comes up at the right price)
basicly i was wondering what the performance of a standard t25 is, i know theres various engines and none of them will set the world on fire but im wanting to know how they fair up to the morden vans
thank you

eh?
they're over twenty years old, the engines in the back and they drink fuel... like all eighties cars did.
so in a nutshell they don't.
Now you would be better comparing the transporter to it's equivalent 80's merc or transhit

2.1 litre Automatic with 7 seats(No camping interior)
27mpg on a run if I drive sensibly.
18-20 if I'm lucky around town.
Will happily sit at 70mph (untill the fuel runs out) will exceed 80mph (but fuel runs out much faster)
One of the "Get it running on LPG" clique will be along shortly.

I have had 3 of these great vans in my time
1 2.1dj poptop camper that became a hightop running on lpg. It was ok but i was never that happy with the lpg conversion as it was never set up right. It does however go pretty quick and when in a convoy i was usually the quickest if your into teararsing around.2
2 2.1dj but this time in a Syncro Doka. It runs great though i have to turn down the revs to keep it under the emissions pass every mot day. You can hardly hear the engine but this is due to it being a doka and the engine isnt inside the van i guess. Its OK on fuel but not great by any means but much better than my mates MV engine (they even sound odd

). I intend to have the lpg system off the other van installed and set up properly this time and see how this goes so with better MPG and nice and quiet and a bit pokey too sounds good. Its 5h1t off roading in deep water though because of all the electrics and i hav to dry it out every now and again.
3 Westy Syncro 1.9d Noisy, but does settle down abit after 10 minutes running. If you like sitting at 60mph on a motor-way going through deep water in your van and getting awsome MPG(45+) this is a good engine. My pal Rob has a 1.6d and i thought he was nuts putting up with it but the mpg you get is unbelievable. You can get turbos on both engines and they make them more pokey but i guess you dont get the MPG.

yes it would be used for work as im a carpenter, i currently own an escort van and a mk2 scirocco but im thinking of getting rid of both of them for a t25 or maybe a t4 if a t25 is not practical
reliability is a key factor as i will need to get to work, which is why i want to stay with vw
whats peoples views on using a t25 for work
thanks for all the speedy replys

Aircooled - its the future! (snigger - Doug waits to see the roar at that comment hehehe)
As already said they are all pitiful on fuel and much the same on performance -
1.6 Diesel - Pants - like a pair of asthmatic grannies running for the bus
will do 45 mpg+
Top end about 60 mph (will do a little more but that's really pushing it)
1.6 Diesel turbo - a little better... as above but after having a bit of ventolin
around 30-35mpg
top end much the same just gets there a bit faster uses a little more juice and smokes a bit more
1.6 Aircooled - I have one of these; one day I'll make it off the drive in under a week and learn that it needs a small mortgage each run out
anything from 18-30 mpg
top end 60 mph if your lucky
1.9 Aircooled (ususally known as a 2.0l)
better than a 1.6 but much thirstier 16 - 25 pg
top end somewhere upto 75 mph
............ 'ang on a sec just remembered this is all on the Brickyard

Standard performance of a gassed lpg 2.1on a carb (fully loaded camper) possible top speed is above the national limit (85mph+ on French Autoroute), commuting consumption 18 mpg but £ for £ equivalent of just below 40 as compared to petrol, quiet, smooth and still with enough power to respond to those little incidents that occur in the real world.
I'd speak to your accountant about what he'd be happy passing off to HM Revenue ... I suspect it'd be much easier to justify a T4 though.
Ian.

If its not a 2.1i its slow
and all T25s dont handle, even when lowered
