I'm having problems with my heater - as in its not heating...

The thermostat seems to work - I hear it click on as it turns round
The fan works...
But it blows out cold air

Having searched other posts here it seems the pump isn't going - I can't hear the clicking sound under the van

I tested it while hooked up to the mains so assumed there was enough power

So, what should I start checking first and how?

Run through the fault finding in the manual.

If you didn't get a manual just Google "eberspacher manual". There are free .pdfs of the manuals available.

Have you left it running for a while? Mine takes a couple of minutes before it starts getting warm. First time I ran it it took ages to pull the fuel through. May be just an airlock in the fuel pipe.

I did leave it running for a little while to see if the heat would kick in ... but i thought i should hear the clicking noise anyway from the start - or is that not the case?

Also, I guess i need to find out what model it is to find a manual - does anyone happen to know off-hand what the likely model is for an 84 Westfalia...?

It's the American name for Ebespacher coz most Merakins are too dumb to pronounce more than three sylabulls.

Go to the downloads section and theres manuals etc for all models.

B2L for petrol D2L for diesel.
The ticking doesn't start straight away maybe 30 secs to 1 minute, and try it with the engine running.

ok, i've tried it with the engine running, still no ticking. Also tried tapping the pump with a spanner.. nothing. Any ideas?

Also, the thermostat I have is number 1-7, its seems to switch on towards the lower numbers - I'd have assumed it would be the other way round - is this right?

Could it be a fuse somewhere... where would I find them?

Any chance you have a blown fuse, hence no power to pump. Do you have a circuit tester or a torch bulb and some wire, take spades off pump and connect volt meter or bulb just to test circuit continuity. If you have power then pump maybe goosed.

Yes pump should start within a very short space of time. As for fuse location I can only speak for mine, which has 3 fuses under one of the front seats, but thats for a b5w type heater.
Can only suggest that you try and trace where the wires go.
