Would be interested in installing an LCD TV permanantly in my van ................ few considerations:

where would i run the power from (would it be from the single socket underneath rock and roll), do you have to install another aerial on the van to pick up reception.

Whilst im on the sunject of power, is it possible to spur off the single socket i have and if yes could i put an additional double socket elsewher in van?

The big issue with DVB is reception and the need for a decent sized aerial in order to get reliable/clear signals. Those "pooh" little supplied ones are so hit n miss that you end up not bothering at all.

Things should improve on this front when analogue is finally turned off.
Cambria has just turned analogue turn off and I’ve gone from not being able to get any channels on either digital or analogue to be able to receive 50 channels on digital.

You can take the power from wherever you please,c yes it is possible to spur off your exisitng socket, people may say bear inmind what you are drawing amps wise as per campsite plug ins only offer so much blah blah........

i dont care if it trips i unplug somthing and reset the trip in the box......

You can get a 12v screen, does cost a bit more and a 12v digital receiver then you could use poweer from your leisure battery.

You can do anything you like really, so long as you are prepared to put a bit of work in

Get a freesat dish and receiver, then you shouldnt have a problem picking up channels.

They hold a charge for 2.5 hours apparently so would use less from the leisure battery. Plays DVD's too.

Whatever system you choose I would advise against leaving it permanently in the van.

I just bought one of these 290349580930 from Ebay. Great tv with freeview and DVD and a bargain as these are £250 plus £40 for the battery from currys. Came with a carry case aswell.

just to add my 2 pence worth and i bet there are quite a few who will agree with me
whats wrong with parking somewhere nice and looking at the view instead of freeview on tv
when you can get a free view out of you van window
plus no one is able to steal the view out of you van window
where as i nice tv is a van will not stay inside for long

I couldn't agree more in the summer. But in the winter when it is dark by 4.30 and my two year old is full of energy the tv will come in handy. Plus he get a bit restless if we are driving a fair distance and this keeps him ocupied.

Agree on small children and darker nights although my youngsters moaned when they discovered I'd forgotten to pack a selection of films and had brought (by mistake) the entire series of 'On The Buses'...

They are but can't help feeling that permanent fittings are Chav magnets. Prefer to stash mine away when not in use or removed from vehicle altogether. Alarms don't deter some of them and its not just the theft but the search for replacement broken windows, inconvenience etc etc.

it folds flat against the roof of my bus, from the outside you cant really see it.........
