i'll start from the beginning its the best place i think
i went on a long journey the other day which resulted in the crankshaft seals failing??
Wellanyway i removed the engine today and found that the front seal had gone but it was the input shaft sealng ring leaking everywhere.
Thats an easy fix but there is quite a lot of play in the shaft how hard is it to replace the bearing if that is the problem and has anyone tried this??
thanks in advance phil

Spigot bearing collapsed resulting in spigot shaft flailing about ruining the seal?

probably, if that's the problem, so long as it's not f*cked the clutch.

if input shaft has been flailing around as well as the oil seal it may have foobarred the oil thrower and the input shaft itself, if the oil thrower is worn then the seal won't cope with the load and will leak, so I'd advise removing bellhousing and checking.
There should be a few mm of movement in the input shaft, but excessive movement suggests not fitted correctly, common issue on petrol boxes converted to diesel, it looks an easy job but as with all things doing it right and doing it aren't the same thing
also it's alot easier to change the seal with the bellhousing off the box

Thanks for the Aidan good advice parts on order, thanks Simon.
To be honest though I am not sure if it is an original petrol box.
I was going to drill the seal and put a self taper in to remove it.
Oh yeah a clutch for the van over here from vw is 325 euros
