Help with Thermostat

Can anyone tell me which way round the thermostat and O-ring go in to the plastic housing on a 1.9DG, i've taken them out and now cant remember which way round they went.

Haynes isn't very clear.

Stat should be fitted in the housing as shown in the photo on the top left with the wax element and return spring at the bottom.......

thanks

thats the way i fitted it, apart from i put the sealing o ring on the top instead of between the thermostat and botttom housing. now if i can just stop it leaking........

If you look closely the inside of the 'o' ring is split this is to allow the seal to be fitted to the stat it's self , then when the housings are screwed together the seal gets clamped in place,,,,,no more leaks. Happy Days,,,,

Take care with your housing, don't damage it, they are like hens teeth to get.

T3's don't have that style of thermostat seal, it's just a plain O-ring.
Stat should only go in one way, the O ring follows it.

Cheers guys all sorted now (plenty of sealant plus the o-ring

)
