Colchester? Go find Malcolm Rooks in Wivenhoe! That guy can stitch ANYTHING together. He used to be located towards the bottom of the town but you may need to ask about. Local garage would definately know where he is.

You could also have a chat with John Austin - he'd know who was any good.

He's based at Marks Tey chuck - on that roundabout as you come off A12 from Colchester direction or via leafy Lexden. If you look at that large building on the roundabout, he's behind that in the yard. He did have a fire a few weeks back but I gather they're in a temporary unit whilst repairs are completed. I'm sure there'll be a note on their door or one of the other units will point you in the right direction. John himself is a wealth of knowledge and will find you a good welder I'm sure.

Malcolm Rooks is a neat welder though - if you can track him down. He's welded a beetle for me in the past that the MOT guy said should never be tested ever again and he transformed it. Used to be a guy, Adrain King out at Tendring known as the rust-buster but not sure if hes still operating. There are others in Colchester but can only recommend the above from personal experience in terms of cost/quality.

John Austin is in Yellow Pages too.

You're in luck. Rectory Hill Garage, Wivenhoe - Malcolm Rooks Colchester 01206 522114 - not sure if number is correct but you'll find him I'm sure. Looks like a real mechanic and usually black from head to toe. Keen on fishing.

If he asks how you found him, tell him the ex-husband of Debbie who owned the red beetle in the 1980s recommended him! One of his famous quotes is "I'll sew it together!!!" Would definately see if you can find him out first then if not, talk to John.
