my clutch slips in first gear sending the van into shudders but not always will this wear off or is the clutch knackered
it did it on my 1600ct and now does it on my 2.0l

A juddering clutch could be anything from an (oil) contaminated drive plate to a dry spigot shaft spline......

Simply whip it out and have a butchers, if in doubt change out anyway.......

Could be gearbox rubber mount, can cause juddering when just engaging clutch.

where do i find that

back of the box,the thin end ! stick your head under mate and take a look all will become apparent ..

it doesn`t do it all the time say 3 out of 4 it will other gears are all fine
will have a look at the gear box today
where can i get a clutch from looked on gsf website cannot see anything

it won`t be because i am still using the gearbox off the ct will it ???

When you swapped engines did you use the clutch assembly including the flywheel from the original?
Or did you use just the clutch cover and friction plate but with the flywheel from the replacement engine? if it was the second option it is common to have judder because both flywheel/cover and plate have worn diferently causing high spots and irratic release/engage action.

ok i have looked under thee van and stil at a loss is it near the wheel thing on the end of the gearbox

the gearbox is quite wet at the fat end not dripping but is wet to touch

The 'wheel thing' you describe could well be it if at the front end of the gearbox. Check rubber inside and make sure it is all complete and not split.

See the letter 'h' ofthe word clutch... It's under there somewhere!

My juddering was caused by the engine mounts on the rear crossmember being shot. The design is failsafe and when the rubbers fail completely you get a metal to metal banging sound as you pull away.

OK then if it is a hydraulic system check the bracketry on the slave cylinder is good and tight and not broken where you can't see it. If it is a cable operated system make sure there is a nice curve where the cable jumps from the chassis to the engine and that engine movement under torque cannot tug on the outer. Also make sure the bell housing bolts are tight. If all good then I suppose the problem could be within. Strangely enough I can induce shudder in my Mondeo if I let it slip a bit on a fast pull away even though it is relativelt new. I can't be asked to strip it and so don't do fast pull aways. I don't like to say it but the problem could be a slack flywheel centre bearing (often a needle roller) which allows the clutch body to clamp up the plate off centre so causing it to walk round in small circles until it centralises on take up and creates shudder. Incidentally the Boxter can suffer wobbling at the clutch pedal due to design deficiencies in the dual mass flywheel So you ain't on your own there and I don't suppose ou parted up with no forty thousand pounds!
