After the Peak weekend, and chatting to you about possible nudge bar mountings, I have been and purchased a MIG welder, wire, mask and gas.
I have ordered some plates to mount the bar on, and some additional tube to run a bar from the nudge bar to the bumper mounting bolts.
I have ordered replacement longer bolts in stainless and bought some of Pete's eye bolts with D shackles.
I will be heading into the garage momentarily to blind myself, get a better suntan and burn the Syncro to the ground.
So thanks again for your inspiration!! :ok

Ok, I have just received 2 off 500mm lengths of 1 1/2" of mild steel tube to form 2 brace bars that will run from the nudge bar to the front bumper bolts.
These will be put to one side until I have cut the nudge bar to create a flat surface for the vertical plate that will bolt through the deform panel.
Pics to follow.

Morning Steve,
going to get some pics today and will post them on here and on'tyard.
Have seen something similar on a Syncro but cannot find the pic so am winging it somewhat.

Jane made it down to the garage yesterday and found the new welding toys, trying to wriggle out of that last night after 6 pints of IPA was a bit stressful, told her I found it in the bushes where we found the Westy - think I got away with it! :D

Cheers, Paull

So, jobs on the Syncro requiring welding:

1. Exhaust manifold – the Subaru conversion had a bodge job header made out of steel thrown together and as a result one header has blown through. This will be welding job number one.

2. Interior bulkhead – there is a bar that runs across the cab behind the front seats which allows the use of a double passenger seat and a bulkhead. I have these and just need a plate putting onto the end of the bar which will then be located using rivnuts and M10 bolts.

The end requiring a plate welding onto it.

The desired additional seating capacity

3. Front nudge bar – I have avoided the genuine bull bars because of the substantial weight and the loss of approach angle caused by them mounting beneath the bumper. This is where a bit of nifty design and welding may result in something unique and practical.

Very roughly balanced in place to give an impression of how it may look

The large eyebolts, spreaders and D shackle that will hold the nudge bar to the deform panel

Hopefully it will end up something like this one.

4. A spare wheel carrier based upon something I had floating about in the back of the garage, this may or may not be possible but whilst I am on with creating a mountain of scrap I may as well go the whole way!
Image
Spare carrier from some Toyota 4x4 - cannot afford a proper one so got to get creative on this one

Watch this space, and the news!!!

That looks good. Do you have space to mount a hilift jack on that

Not thought about the hi lift, but don't see a reason why not.
Will line a few things us and take some pics.

Think there may just be space close to the hinges - the hinges are useless for a T3 so need to create something that will work.
More pics as it happens!
