Starter Problems

I am having problems with the starter on my 2.0 ltr A/C, when the battery gets low the solenoid will not disengage even if the key is turned off, until it flattens the battery, it just turns over and over getting slower and slower, until battery dies !
Used to happen only occasionally but a problem now as I have just repipied the petrol feeds and it is will not start up and fire, so difficult to test fuel flow?

Any thoughts , is it just a bad connection or a faulty solenoid or starter motor.

How easy is solenoid to get off??

Cheers

Thanks, I hope its somethig simple, as simple things become difficult when you have to wait for a gap in the rain up here in Scotland. I need a garage !!!

How easy is taking the starter off ???

Piece of cake to get the stater off just two bolts, one long and one short and two cable connections under the same stud, give em a good squirt though with penetrating oil the stud connection is in some sort of bakelite material and i snapped mine off.
Get your starter solenoid assembly over the vice and undo the other elec connection and the three screws. mine were very tight and i found the impact driver assisted greatly. (best tool i ever bought, it even undid all the tin ware screws a treat. Just make sure you support the sol well underneath well before giving it a clonk or five!).
the solenoid just lifts out then.
Anyone got a contact for a new solenoid???
