Does anyone know the difference between early and later wheel bearings?
If my van has early callipers and disks could it have late bearings?

The outer bearing is bigger from 1984. 22mm instead of 19mm

Kev if Windysurfer doesn't want them I'll take them off your hands. Been hearing a rumble for a few weeks.

For some reason mine seems to have late bearings fitted, guess who bought early ones.
Vin number matches to early ones.Disks and callipers are early
Where did you buy yours from Kev?
Could do with a pair of late outers without having the buy a full kit

There is a change over model too.. this used a larger outer bearing and the same early inner... so maybe the later uprights have been fitted.. the early/late discs are not interchangable with the calipers as the offsets are different (IIRC)..

My local GSF has just closed.
So just to clarify
Early outer bearing bore size is 19mm
Late outer bore size is 22mm.
Inner bearings are same for both early and late

i fitted new discs and bearings from gsf last weekend and came on here and read they were pants
i know one thing tho, they have made my ride sooo much quieter now, twas like a hoover running in the cab i wasnt sure if it was gearbox noise or not with the droning..thanks gsf for proving it wasnt

I changed mine as my disks where knackered but did have a bit of a drone from a bearing.
I ordered my bearings for Brickwerks, checked the VIN number which pointed at early bearings but, just my luck,I needed late ones, so now I've got new inner bearings and my old outer bearings and still a bit of a whine.
While getting the disks changed both callipers where seized so even though we freed them of they'll need changing soon.

luckily my mechanic mate changed mine as I couldn't even get the calliper bolts undone
Going to have to invest in a decent breaker bar for doing my callipers.
Think I'll try my local bearing place to see if I can buy just the later outers.
Expensive weekend but you can't skimp on your brakes.
