help identifying waterboxer engines...

Hi all,
Need a hand identifying a year (and any other details) for two waterboxers... Both DG codes

DG101196

DG079630

Any help apprechiated :)

Both made from 10/1982-10/1992

I would imagine VW used a sequential numbering... so the higher number would be the youngest engine

I suppose you could try VW and see what they say.. then again :idea

What is it you want to know... as the best way to identify a "late" engine is by the part number ont he side of the sump.. if it ends with a "B" then it is a late engine, can be biult up as a 2.1 (using a 2.1 crank and pistons) without clearancing issues.. it also means head studs will be easier to remove and the main bearings are easily available..

it doesnt matter what cooling system is on it as the base engine it identical in fittings really so an early engine can be used with later water system and vica versa... actually I have a late engine in my early Caravelle..

and by the same degree early or late zorsts can fit either late or early too.....
