gear change probs/clutch

2.0 Aircooled.
i can select all gears when the engine is not running, and can also select gears at tickover, but not at normal driving conditions.
I've checked the clutch fluid which was below the min level, topped it up and bled the clutch. plenty of old fluid came through when bleeding.
Still no change when driving though! i can see the clutch mech working, all seems to be ok there.
Could it be a broken clutch?

When was it last changed?
OK a good test of clutch wear is to apply the handbrake hard and try to pull off in 1st. It will either slip or stall
Get under and check the movement when someone depresses the pedal.
otherwise it may need a gear box boffin to answer this

Similar symptons some while ago with my camper - turned out it was spigot bearing. Just as Aidan predicted it would be!!
All gears no engine off, but as soon as I fired it up - nothing. AA got it into first, and we crawled home. Hint - mine wouldn't disengage when the gear stick was in neutral.....Gear stick in neutral, engine in gear

I dont think its ever been changed.....its only done 75000 miles .
Clutch hasnt been slipping and always felt good, but in the last few weeks its been getting more difficult changing, especially to a lower gear.
today it wont change down at all!
Thanks for your replies.

Yep sounds similar to spigot bearing.. or a release bearing problem.. is it difficult to change up too? Any noise like grumbles when pressing the clutch or whines when driving under load or off throttle? Oil level in the box ok?
Fluid resevoir serves botht he brakes and clutch..

No worries - that's just what I had....and then on the day it went went (on a busy junction at 8 .15 am!) it wouldn't go into gear at all for me....the AA man give it a good push and got first. He then checked all the linkage, and with out the engine on got all gears. But as soon as I fired it up, it wasn't doing anything.
Was interesting, as wouldn't disengage when running. So got it into gear waited for the lights to change and started it.....moved off straight away, and then crawled home in first....couldn't stop anywhere till we got home (only 1 mile) but still got to junctions and wondered if I would make it. Amazingly every juction was clear......
Good luck with yours

update:
garage diagnosed problem within the gearbox, clutch was worn but ok.
they fitted a s/h gearbox, new oil and a new clutch. they've tested it and say it is fine, no noises or clunks.3 month warranty.
will be collecting it tomorrow.
cost £450. ouch!
