My 1.9 watercooled does not like to tick over when cold and always smells fumey. Any ideas please?

Forgot to mention I serviced it 3k ago. new plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and airfilter.

Not so much a service as replacing parts. Do a compression check, check for air leaks, check tuning etc etc. Proper service.

You sure one of your mate/s hasn't stuck a load of fish heads on the exhaust! It happenned to me.
