in my 81 Aircooled, i'm considering fitting new dash clocks (want a rev counter)

now theres some on ebay, one with a rev counter to be precise, so i'm guessing off a newer T25 than mine

would these be a straight swap or do the newer models not fit?

cheers muchly

Why not just buy a rev counter, much easier......... :D You can convert though if the new later dash includes the membrane pcb

Pin connections on the membrane connector are different on later dashboards so you will need to alter the existing multiconnector to suit the later dashboard. Re-assigning the cables within the edge connector is straightforward to do as the connctor block allows the wires to be removed and re-inserted quite easily. However, the following mods will also need to be done:-

1. Signal for the rev counter will need a wire from the coil and available at the dashboard for the rev counter.

2. Oil pressure LED on an 81 model feeds directly to the oil pressure switch. Post 86 vans have a buzzer of doom circuit that controls the LED. You will need to modify a later dashboard by placing a link in the BOD connector so that the LED connects to the oil pressure switch and replace the existing LED with a 12v type. Alternatively, add the second oil pressure switch (if possible on an a/c) and a wire to use the BOD (I wouldn't TBH).

all fairly easy to do and, if you still want to go ahead, can post necessary details.
