If you have the kit and the exhaust comes off ok it should be 1-2 hrs

BETTER IN THE AIR THAN ON THE GROUND IN MY OPINION

Make sure you follow the correct procedure for undoing and re tightening the head though!

Couple of hours to take off.. in the van... but putting it back together is the issue.. early engine will have corroded head studs which will break (if not when undoing, it will when doing up) and they are a pig to get out of the case..... cant be done in the van...
Barrels will have stuck in the heads too, which means they will have disslodged in the case and have to come off the pistons.. again not a job easily done in the van.. and geting them back together is best done out of the van too..

its normally better to get an engine from elite, for example, when that has happened..

thanks for that and it is exactly what i thought. my friend broke down and was recovered to this garage, the engine had siezed, they told jules that for a hundred quid they would remove the engine and strip the heads off to see if it was rebuildable, next day they phoned her to say the engine is a write of they can do nothing with it and she has to remove her van  i got there today withe the intention of collecting the engine then going tomorrow to tow the van back home for her, engine still in the van with one head off  bill for a hundred quid. i thought a bit steep.its up to her but she is going to pay it, i hate seeing people ripped off. anyway the plan is to put a remtec into it and show her where to put oil in. :rofl
