Just a quickie to show y'all my old water pipe off of my van its the metal pipe that runs across the top of the block and has the temp sensor in it. After i'd pulled all the bodge filler off of it i discovered that the previous owner had done a repair with a self tapping screw to stop a leak where the pipe had rotted from the inside but tbh as vw don't stock this part any more he probably didn't have much choice :(

Happy Camper,

That is bloomin' incredible. I'm so impressed. Especially as this part was the first bit to fail on our van. Just two days before our premier outing. Luckily we found and fitted a new replacement in time.

As you say, highly unlikely to find new now.

As I enjoy a blast with a blow torch I might make one just for fun too. But will probably end up looking similar to a TV aerial and nowhere near as professional as your one.

Should definately go to the Wiki section.

Well done that man :ok

I have had copper pipes on mine, due to scooby lump, and been ok for nearly 5 years no signs yet of corrosion!

Its due to galvanic or electrochemical corrosion. Differing metals react with each other and aluminium and copper are not a good mix. Which is why cars with aluminium engines don't normally have copper radiators. Its a bit like electro plating but in reverse. The aluminium of the engine is slowly eaten away.

OOOH I'VE WON A COCONUT

Thanks for the replies chaps, copper piping is being used by many motorcycle / car manafactures due to in being incredibly light and dissipates heat better than steel which is why it lasts 50 + years heating your house, anti freeze won't affect it either as jamesc76 has proved, the steel pipe that the van came with had rotted out from the inside and had furred up to half its flow capacity  someone had also done a nasty repair with a sel tapper :rofl

If any of you nice people need one of these pipes i can get them made to order £60 + £5 postage ( uk ) that includes the adapter for the temp sensor to wind in to .

Well the new pipe's been on for just over a week now and i can comfirm that in time there has been no coolant lost from the system as a quick check revealed today

Also done an anti freeze test and she's covered down to -34c
