Lack of experience

Hi to all, Just a question to all you Knowledgeable's out there - i have Recently ( last 18 month's ) bought and restored a 1983 2.0 aircoolled t25 camper and althhough this is not my first vw camper its my first t25 , i do have some experience with the 1600 aircoolled after owning 2 bays , so thought doing a t25 would be very similar and it was , its gone well and after a refit , new roof, welding , respray etc , i turned my attention to the engine, now as this vehicle came with a full service history , has done only 86000 miles and started at the turn of the key i guessed it would probably be ok after a full engine service - i presumed after a proper oil change , new filters , leads , plugs dizzy cap rotor arm etc - it would run ok , and it does , however there seems to be a annoying tinnie , tappety ( i am reluctant to call it a rattle ) more like a loud tick when i start it ,that seems to clear when it warms up , i have'nt taken it for a run as it is sorn right now , so that options out . my question then is this - Has anyone else experienced this problem and what is the common consensus as to the cause and cure , i may not reply to all but will read and be grateful to any advice posted , cheers for taking the time to read this - Malc

noisy hydraulic tappet/tappets i would say.they drain their oil when van is left standing for a while.once the van is given a good run they fill up again.nowt to worry about...

I agree with Rob on that .I had a 83 Aircooled T25 and it did the same thing. After a couple of minutes it quitened down. just a quirk of the engine design. :ok Mark

Cheers for the reassurance Mark , i guess your right but the worrying thing is it does take a while to settle down , but i guess as Rob says it will take a decent run to get them well oiled again , Malc

It seems every vw model has its built in oddity , it took me ages to work out the cam rod from beneath the petrol pump on the bays wear and can cause a lack of power :ok but it occurred on both my bays , Cheers for the reassurance Rozzo.
