2.1DJ black hose to bell housing whats it for?

Hi

As title says what does this hose do. It pushed in to a rubber grommet in the engine casing bell housing using a 90 deg elbow. I have looked through the bentley manual but cant find any reference to it. The end is blanked off or melted closed not sure which.

Would post a picture but wife has gone away with the camera.

Thanks

Ian

There is only one hole in the engine case flange, and that has a black plasitc plug in it , there is a "sensor" fitted to the flange too, this has a wire running from it that goes to a small 3 pin plug normally clipped to the alternator.. This is for a VW diagnostic tool and does nowt..

My Syncro has a rubber gromet in the top part of the housing with a hose coming off it and it is a breather for sure.

Hi syncroswede

I thought it might be a breather, but when I pulled the connector out of the grommet the end was closed up or had been melted closed, is this open on your van?

Thanks

Ian

open
I pulled mine off as it's unsightly

It stops the clutch dust covering the engine in material

just a breather, goes in to a hole in the bulkhead in front of the engine along with the breathers from the front diff and the gearbox. should be open.
