Woopee, van passed it's mot yesterday. while it was in, I arranged for the gearbox oil to be changed. What a difference to the gear changing. Someone on here mentioned it was like cutting butter.So..ooo smooth.
However, when in 2nd or 4th gear(5 speed box) ny knuckles now hit the dashboard. The garage didn't touch the linkage etc -only drained and refilled. Any ideas why this should be doing this?

does sound link the garage has taken the linkage off , no amount of oil changers would alter the linkage ,
get under the van and have a look at the retaining bolts and linkage parts ,see if theres spanner marks

check they put the bracket that holds the linage on the correct side of the flange on the gearbox if they had it off(see no reason why they had it off, unless they didnt, or couldnt get the drain plug, or filler plug out and had to drop the box)
it makes 10mm difference and should be on the front ( away from the engine) side of the flange

As said, sounds like bracket is on the wrong side of the mounting...
There isnt need to drop the linkage, but it does improve access a bit...
Oh.. what oil did they use?? These gearboxes should only use a GL4 oil, or a dual rated GL4/5.. GL5 only, is not a good idea, unless they can confirm the oil used does not affect the bronze syncro rings etc in the box. (Yes, the wrong gear oil eats them away, FACT not fiction, ask Aidan

)...

Will check with garage on type of oil used and post back
