from 1.6NA to 1.9 (AAZ or 1Y)

Hi, following the demise of my 1.6NA engine this week it looks like an upgrade to either an AAZ or 1Y is on the cards - by someone with much more automotive engineering skills than me
He's done plenty other vehicles but this'll be his first T25 so I'm trying to gather lots of info to make it as smooth and quick as possible. I think I've gone into a bit of information overload tying to absorb all the posts on here and the excellent guide on the brickwerks site, so would really appreciate any important points/gotchas that are specific to a 1.6NA to one of the above engines.

I understand that most parts will be reused from my existing engine (sump, oil filler etc), but other things I'm thinking of at the moment include:
*Any extra parts that I'll need to buy/change in addition to the engine lump.
*Issues with going from a CS so not having a JZ Turbo to reuse as seems to be recommended, and using the AAZ turbo instead?
*Do I have to change the clutch/gearbox/exhaust as I have seen mentioned elsewhere?
*Any parts that we'll have to create/bodge/marry/weld.

and anything else you think is useful.

Thanks for any helping to regain some clarity !

CS to AAZ

I did this 3 years ago. A lot of work and worry at the time but I remain very happy with the result. I'll dig out an old e-mail at the weekend that explains how I did it.

In a nutshell, I hardly used any parts off the old CS; I sold the whole thing as a running concern. What you'd be better off doing is picking up a complete but knackered JX as a donor engine. You need: sump/dipstick, clutch, flywheel, both manifolds, turbo, engine mounts, air system, exhaust and all sorts of odds and ends. Some of these parts are the same as those on the CS but many, particularly the air/exhaust systems, are not. Better off looking at it than looking for it.

There's also a fellow in Blackpool whose name I forget but I think his name's on the suppliers' list, who sells a lot of these bits.

Ping me your e-mail address and I'll forward my stuff.

There's another AAZ conversion in Bristol - in SomkeyJon's van - it's a blue Syncro panel van. I would have thought he'd be happy for you to have a look round the engine bay at some point.

If you re-used the NA bits and ran an AAZ turbo set up then you *could* re-use more of the NA stuff. You'll need a TD (JX engine code) silencer and engine mounts, I think. A lot of the other engine mounting kit is the same though.
