Hi all , went to Brighton and picked up these Porsche 911 seats today. They are easy enough to fit but was just wondering if it's possible to repaint the leather as they are slightly the wrong color (looked right in pics but not when I got there) also what should I do Or use to restore the leather back to there former glory, cheers ben

Hello,

There are some textile paints, with that you can paint leather in every color you want. I do have a paint on the back of my leather jacket and after say around 10 years it is still as bright as new. So just try that.
Dont know what brands there are in the UK.

Greetings from Robert

ooh, i like the idea of 'painting' the leather as it provides a lot of flexibility - just a couple of quick questions though: does the paint crack at all with use ? is there a chance of tranfer to clothes (especially on hot and sticky days) ? when u say 'paint' is it more of a 'dye' ?

ps, sorry to hijack this post

If you use thinners or any other spirit based cleaner on leather it will take the oils out of the leather and cause it to crack and split.
I would suggest that you pick up a general classic car mag ( practical classics is a good one ) in the back will be a directory of specialists. There will be a few adds for companys that sell re con/re colour kits for leather upholstery.
If you have already used thinners, get some leather feed. Saddle soap is great for cleaning and re nourishing the hide. Having owned a 911 with these seats, they do get very hot in the summer. If you have not cleaned, nourished and applied the colour correctly, it will come off. I got out of the car with a patch of navy stuck on my bum!
Have fun.

Hi

I painted my Blue leather Scirocco seats with black leather spray, from the local shoe menders, a good clean with acetone first, not as harsh as thinners (generally) I used 2 cans and did both fronts and rears, after 2 years, the blue is just starting to peek through in high wear areas, so a quick re coat will be in order. Never had any come off on our clothes. it is quite shiny though, a bit hand bag-gy.

Treated twice yearly with auto glym leather nourish stuff, quite soft for 26 year old seats.
