Hi All, I am new on here, but not new to the scene. Vanfest is going to be the last shoe for my bay until she is restored! Whilst she is being restored, I am going to pursue another vee dub off my list of dubs to own! I am after a syncro wedge! I ma looking at a couple and I have noticed one I really love but it has no difflocks! Should I :run or can I fit these easily, or is the syncro just as good without? My father in law is a land rover nut, so I have had a lecture that its not worth it! :( What do you guys think? Its not like I am going up the alps, but do plan on going off road where I can. HELP! :?: :?: :?:

I have a Syncro with just a rear diff lock and previously owned a Defender. As the VW has much less articulation in the 'axles' a diff lock helps enormously if you are off road. Land Rovers tend to keep wheels on the ground longer. That said, in the snow at the beginning of the year it was really apparent that the Syncro is much more stable than a 90. I loved my 90 but the VW is so much more comfortable, quieter and practical that I would struggle to go back.

As for retro-fitting one, check with Aidan...

You would be best to have at least a rear diff lock but if the van you fancy does not have one you can speak to Aidan. He will be able to sort it out for you

Dont forget you will need switch, pipework, actuator as well as having your gearbox converted to locking type.....all possible but you would be much better of trying to find one with diff locks...especially if you intend to do any off roading. :ok
