....stayed overnight at the top of the hill where there are a couple of pull ins with magnificent views of the coastline. Little sign says no overnight parking but nobody moved us on (which is just as well as we cooked the engine getting up the hill!), its remote up there so no one about anyway. Thankfully, the old lump fired up next day but it was a great spot to spend the night.........its now marked on my map as 'downhill only' .... :D

Can't help but you reminded me that my fist camper - a Ford Thames home conversion - to which I fitted a masive twin choke Solex and a Zefyre Six Differential went like a rocket but had to climb Porlock Hill in reverse due to the very high first gear ratio. In a way it was less frightenning as at least you were facing the right way if it all turned to rats!
Cheers
Wolfie :ok

I'm scared of it now after my near disaster (not in a T25 tho'). So the WBX'r did it ok? Never been sure about attempting it in my Hi top 1.9DG but would be nice to know it could get up that hill........my old 1.9DG pop top did it and so did my 1.6 a/c Bay but it struggled. Wonder if any one else got up it ok?

I saw a old splitty that had been up and down it he said it was just alot of 1st gear and then alot of breaking. Then when we saw a T25 coming down that morning we thought we would go for it. it went ok i did stall but other than that it was just 1st and 2nd most of the way  they are defo the steppest hills i've been up. We decided even tho it went ok probably not to go up it again. :ok

....think I will use that toll road instead, it's supposed to take the sting out of the hill but never tried it ...:D

I used the toll road. Not exactly great for views until after you have paid the toll but better than chugging up that monster....the decent into Lynmouth was a good brake melter

If you want a few beers and are prepared to pay a little then Sparkhayes Farm in Porlock is a nice cheap site. Cost £6pp in July 08 and is right by the village
