anyone who has been helping me fit my ict carbs to my 2.0cu Aircooled will have an idea the trouble i've had

tonight i thought i had cracked it but

looking from the rear forward-
on starting the van the left had carb seems to be working ok but looks as if it's getting over fueled.
the left hand exhaust pipe is blasting out aloty of smoke and what looks like unburnt fuel.

on the other hand the right carb is doing nothing. when i stop the van after only a couple of minutes the right hand carb lets out alot of exhaust smoke and the inlet manifold and the righthand side of the engine are very warm

Sounds like your carb may have a blockage or a sticky float bowl valve, which may be causing all the fuel to get pumped to the lh carb.

I would take the rh carb off and try to blow through the inlet tube to see if the valve will open, or strip, clean, and rebuild the rh carb.

I have seen on a single carb aircool engine a small piece of rubber hose from a new fuel line block the inlet to the float bowl, so could be worth blowing the fuel lines through.

but what's the build up of heat all about?

Lean running cause a really heat up issue and it sound like your RH carb is running way too lean.

I have replaced the orginal fuel t junction in the engine bay with a standard t junction. would this effect the delivery of fuel to the carbs?

Shouldnt cause a problem if the internal diameter the same as the one you took off,
Is the new T fuel compatible, some plastic melt when exposed to fuel.

t piece is brass. diameter matches the inlet on the ict's. solex carbs had 8mm pipes,ict's now have 6mm

No that wont cause the problem your seeing,
Best guess is, some thing like a flake of rubber has come loose from the hose and blocked the RH carb inlet.
