Electric window motors

Hi

Does anyone out there know about electric motors?

Do they lose power as they get older or do they work until oneday they stop?

Reason I ask is that my windows have never worked since I've owned it.

I've stripped them down, Motor whirls round,
used a 9volt drill to get it all moving up & down.......but.....

The motor doesn't seem to have enough power to push them back up, I can stop the shaft with my thumb & finger......is this right?

Are T25 window motors they same as any other VW ?

Most motors have carbon brushes that transfer the electric current to the moving rotor, these brushes wear out slowing or stopping the motor.
It is possible to renew these brushes but I dont know if this is possible on VW motors.
You could try 'Motor rewinds' in yellow pages.

Try some switch cleaner. Sometimes the commutator is just dirty.
If a motor is laboured ( pushing against a seized window ) the windings may burnout.

Hi
Cheers for reply

''the windings may burnout. '' And does that mean they lose power or just stop?

Its was quite warm in there today :(

If a few windings burn out and short, the motor will loose power.
The more windings that short out the less power untill zero.

if you've got the mech i'd go down a breakers and see what else might fit!! go to a breakers that will have all parts ready and boxed to save you removing from cars and then finding they are no where near similar!

Sounds like a plan.

I'm still wondering about motor output or is it the runners

Should you be able to stop the motor with your finger tips????

If you can stopthe motor with your fingers something is wrong. Check that the motor is getting 12 volts when running it may be something else.
