Anyone know the bolt length of the 6 bolts that secure the driveshaft to hub/gbox? Sick of rounding off or breaking the cheap ones that come with some cv gaitor kits, so gonna get me some quality.
cheers in advance

Chilla,
Vagcat.com (the online catalog) says...........
6............. 893407237
bolt, with multi-spline socket head
M8X48 /
BASIC GERMAN PRICELIST
part number 893407237
Partnumber Title Price
893407237 ZYL.SCHRAU 1.65 Euro
That, I would guess is an M8 diameter (multi-spline socket headed) bolt, 48mm long. (normally measured from below the head to the end of the bolt). (i.e. Not the overall length, including the head)

That's a useful photo
Just resurrecting an old thread to ask, what torque should these bolts be tightened to? A few people seem to have had problems with these this year so I want to check ours.

most important are the serated washers under the heads, they are 7p- each, replace them if missing, replace them anyway imho, they should be in the boot kit I reckon instead of the crap bolts that are supplied; I don't use the silver finished multispline bolts in the kits as they aren't the correct grade and I've snapped a couple just torquing them upto the correct level and had a couple break subsequently
buy genuine ones if possible, unfortunately that means buying them from Germany now, or get some good quality 10.9s from a uk supplier

another reason people round them off is that do not use the correct tool to undo them and consequently round off the splines, an ordinary splined hex drive is not good enough you must use the 12 splined tool!

WHS^^^
And clean the holes out before trying to undo, tap the hex/spline tool into them too.....

Thanks very much for all the useful info. I'm busy searching the net trying to find some high-tensile m8 spline bolts, but not having much luck so far, do they go by any other names?

And remember the ones that gti man are showing are Bolts with a nice reduced shank, the ones shown by covkid are screws ,( as they are threaded all the way) personally I prefere to use the ht bolts
