fuel tank question

took my fuel tank out is there any reason why the breathers to the expansion tanks are cotton braided fuel hose then goto about 5-6 inches copper tube then back to cotton braided fuel hose
I have seen quite a few vans with fuel hose only
but there are clips to hold the copper pipe in place
i have just removed my tanks completely, see tech post
