Water leak from top resevoir

Hello All

I have a 1989 Westy with a 1.6TD JX engine.

A few weeks ago my engine developed a pretty large water leak from the water level sensor in the top water resevoir. I tried tightening the plug but this just slowed the leak. At full running temp I would get water peeing out.

I decided to replace the temp sensor as the rubber threads looked a bit tired. I have fitted the new sensor now but I'm still getting some water seeping through where the rubber threads seal. I have tightened it as much as I can with some mole grips.

Its leaking enought to create a hand sized puddle of water under the engine when parked up. I'm planning on going on a 2 week camping journey in about a month. Is there anything I can do to fix this leak?

Many thanks

Chris

I'm not sure if the tank is the same as a Petrol engine but the JK tanks are poor quality.
Buy VW.

I'll have a look for a new tank. In the mean time though I have some teflon tape. Is it safe to use this on the threads?

Thanks

Chris
