Hi all,
Just thought I'd introduce myself.
I've have had it in my head for a while now that I would like a camper, not right now but a little in the future, you see, my wife is pregnant and I have been dreaming of fun things to do when I'm a dad and camping is one of them. So knowing that I am not going to camping for at least another 18months I thought I'd start saving. I have managed to persuade the wife into letting me buy one as we are going to need another 'family' sized car when the baby is here and she goes back to work ( I currently have a mini, old style, which is no good for baby transportation) I have been given a budget of £2000, which is a but poor I know, but its a start, I'm fairly good with mechanics (you got to be with a mini!) and my bodywork skills are getting better so I'm not afraid of a bit of work, but is £2000 going to get me anywhere or am I dreaming too much??

My advice would be to look at the buying guide on Wiki ,as it's really helpful and acurate, decide how much, and what type, of work you're prepared to carry out then start looking at a few to see what's available within buget

Prices tend to drop a little "off season" so the winter months may be a better time to purchase especially if you're looking for a "project"

As brikinit says, do your research so that you know what to look for. I reckon if you wait until October or November, there'll be loads about in your budget.

Stick with your dream!
I had to wait and dream in order to get my van, but it really IS worth it in the end. I spent 2 years looking thru' small ads and ebay etc throughout the winter months and it finally paid up.
Have a look at my (poorly taken) photo's in my profile. They were taken the day I got it and I paid much less than your budget.

Top tip - I bought mine from Ebay (with research and visits/inspections etc) in the week between Christmas and New Year!
Stay with it and enjoy the thoughts of all the possibilities.

Cheers for the advise, I'm not going to be looking till next winter as the wife will be going back to work and I will (hopefully!) have saved enough cash! for now its just researching into what to look for, but for the time being its nice when I'm at work to look out the window and daydream of one day owning a camper and going on fun family holidays. Anyway what with the baby on the way I have plenty of other things to be thinking about until then.
