Just failed my MOT...... :(

Well it failed.... had a feeling it might! but the list wasnt as half as long as I thought it would be! :o
N/S Rear brake pipe excessively corroded
O/S Rear brake pipe excessively corroded
Inner rear brake pipe excessively corroded
O/S front brake pipe excessively corroded
Rear part of exhaust has a bloomin hole in it! (silencer?)
Parking brake efficiency below requirements.

So as Im
a) not a mechanic
b) need the MOT redone within 2 weeks
c) Dont trust garages (after being spectacularly ripped off last year!)

Can anyone recommend someone on the south coast between Brighton and Southampton that they trust to do the work?

Any help or advice is always appreciated, Thank you.
:ok

Do the right thing, while your getting the brake pipes replaced have them install goodridge braided brake hoses! Trust me you will notice the difference and it won't be that much more work as their replacing aload of brake pipes anyway.

You can get the goodridges from brickwerks for just over 40squids.

Trust me, DO IT!

Thanks for that Doug! Just along the road from me, so will pop in tomorrow.
Had a quote today - £25 for the parts but £140 for the labour - just for the pipes!!!
exhaust £150 + £100 labour!
and handbrake - £15 + £20 labour.....

I think they were just plucking numbers out of the air - but maybe that it the going rate?! seems abit steep to me!

Hiya,
Went to Jake - nice bloke but only really does bodywork, so he gave me the name of a guy in southbourne - but he cant book it in yet, but def keeping his details! :ok

Spoke to PEET on here aswell, but he seems rushed off his feet at the moment - bless im!

Took it to a normal garage I was recommended and they are happy to do all the work for £200 if I supply the exhaust - and if I dont they will repair the old one.
so getting that sorted next week and re mot booked for friday.

Thanks again
:)

That quote seems ridiculous!!

The brake pipe you need should cost £10 not £25, i know garages make abit extra on parts but thats silly.

The brake drums will probably need adjusting (a fairly easy job)

And if its just the back box that needs replacing again its and easy job.

Id just call a few back street garages, its nice to use people who know how to work on vw's but for the work that needs doing any mechanic should be upto the task.

The trouble I am finding is either the garages are not large enough to deal with Campers - or they are SCARED of them! and I saw some of their faces when I turned up!!!

The £200 quote includes changing the pipes from rear to front (which even peet on her has said isnt a quick job) and changing the hoses aswell, adjusting the handbrake and repairing or fitting new exhaust. so labour costs far more out weigh the parts.

Its a shame that PEET is v booked up - I wouldve def chosen hiom above the rest. will keep his details for the future.

I know im a bit far but i could do it for £280 if you can get it to me. Thats for new silencer fitted, all 4 rear metal pipes, new flexi hoses, the front to rear pipe, shoes adjusting all bled through and ready to go. If i can weld the silencer up it would take it down to £220 but imo its not worth it.
